Gellért Hill

Gellért Hill seems from the Danube to be a huge cliff, however it is only 235 metres (710 ft). Owing to its exceptional situation, it offers a peerless panorama of the entire city.
The hill was named after the missionary bishop arriving from Venice who played a significant role in the propagation of Christianity in Hungary. According to the myth in 1046 he was locked in a barrell and thrust into the Danube by the pagan Hungarians who were fighting against the adoption of the Christianity.

The New York Palace was built by an insurance company as a company hall. Its Café in the ground floor named New York Café was a longtime center (almost from its opening in 1894 on to reconstruct it in 2001) for Hungarian literature and poetry. The building was nationalized during the communist years. In 2001 it was bought by Italian Boscolo Hotels and the building was totally renovated, and reopened as a luxury hotel in 2006. The café was also reopened in its original pomp.

The Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace in Budapest is a glittering treasure on the banks of the Danube and acclaimed as one of the finest examples Art Nouveau architecture in Europe, The Gresham Palace was built in the early 1900s and it was owned by the London-based Gresham Life Assurance Company. Originally, the palace served as an office building as well as a home for wealthy British aristocrats connected with the Gresham company. During World War II, Soviet soldiers took up residence in the extravagant palace and it fell into disrepair and served as an apartment building during the Communist rule of Hungary. When democracy was restored, the national government presented the palace to the city of Budapest. In 2001, it was bought by the Four Seasons hotel chain, and was opened soon after as a luxurious hotel

The boat was great fun - at the beginning the girls and boys did not really socialise but when the acts came on every one livened up.
