The Citadel, the fortress on the top of Gellért hill, was built in the mid 1800's. It was built by Julius Jakob Haynau to control the town revolting against the habsburg.
The walls of the Citadel are 220 m long, 12-1 6 m high. and at some points 3 metres (10 ft.) thick.
