Parliament

E-mail Print

The 265-meter-long Parliament building with its excellent proportions dominates the view of the Pest bank of the Danube.

The architect Imre Steindl used the Neo-Gothic London Parliament in the so-called parliament style as a model when he dreamed of "the House of the Nation", Even today the Hungarian parliament meets here, and the President and the Prime Minister also have their offices here.

The Heroes' square is one of the biggest squares of Budapest and one of the most visited sights of the Hungarian capital, In the middle of Heroes' square stands a 36 metres high corinthian column with the statue of Archangel Gabriel on the top, the symbol of the Roman Catholic religion. At the pedestal the equestrian statues commemorate Árpád and the seven chieftains of the Hungarian tribes, who settled their people in the present territory of Hungary.
At the two sides the representative buildings of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Gallery of Art both worth a visit.

St. Stephen's Basilica is dedicated to Hungary's first king, St. Stephen. The largest church in Budapest and the second largest in Hungary, it can take in about 8500 people. The total height of the building is 96 m exactly the same as Budapest Parliament. It occupies 4147 square metres. Palace

E-mail Print
It gave home for the hungarian kings for 700 years. It was build during the 12th century. Through its history it was besieged 31 times and destroyed and rebuilt 6 times. It looks different since the WW2 because during the war it was complitelly destroyed and it was burning for 2 weeks. Now it gives home to mainly museums (Hungaraian National Galery, National Széchényi Library) and goverment buildings.

Fishermen's Bastion

E-mail Print
In the Medieval age this part of the castle wall was guarded by the guild of fishermen, it was named after that. Obviously, the present Fishermen's Bastion has never had any role in defence. It is a spectacular looking-out terrace, with impressive stairs and walking paths. The Pest bank of the river Danube offers its most beautiful view to the capital perhaps from this site whereas, looking from the side of Pest, Fishermen's Bastion adds up to the beauty of the silhouette of Castle Hill.

Matthias Church

E-mail Print
The Matthias church was the first church of the Castle hill. It was built in the 50s and 60s of the 13th century. It is officially named the Church of Our Lady but is known as Matthias Church after the much-loved 15th-century Renaissance king who contributed the towers and who was twice married here. In many respects, the 700 year history of the church serves as a symbol (or perhaps a reminder for Hungarians) of the city's rich, yet often tragic history.

Thanks for everything, it was a superb weekend. The service was excellent and both Gabi and you looked after us very well indeed. Transportation was fine and reliable and the hummer was great fun....
The boat was great fun - at the beginning the girls and boys did not really socialise but when the acts came on every one livened up.

I would definitely use you again and if I am asked to do this I will come to you, don't worry.

Keep in touch!!
